Original news photograph capturing members of the New York Giants warming up on the field prior to a 1913 World Series game against the Philadelphia Athletics held at the Polo Grounds. What makes this photo especially significant is that the player to the far left, just next to the left border, is Jim Thorpe, who was in his rookie season with the Giants in 1913. Thorpe appeared in only nine regular-season games with the Giants in 1913, and he did not appear in the World Series. As a result, photos of Thorpe in a Giants uniform from 1913 are scarce and this is the first Thorpe World Series photo we can recall having seen. Both an Underwood & Underwood and Central Press Association credit stamp appear on the reverse, along with the original paper news caption. The Central Press Association stamp includes the date "Oct 9 1913," which was the date of Game 3 of the 1913 World Series.
