Rare, this is a six-page newspaper from 1886. The first issue of The Sporting News, dated March 17, 1886, representing the inaugural edition of the sports publication founded in St. Louis. Published during the early development of organized professional sports in America, the issue marks the beginning of a publication that became closely associated with baseball coverage and the broader American sporting landscape. A surviving example of The Sporting News debut issue from the late 19th century. Typical condition issues are present, but this is much nicer than your typical surviving 19th century newspaper.
