The 1909 Philadelphia Caramel E95 Christy Mathewson, graded SGC 3, is a desirable early card of the legendary Giants pitcher. This example displays pleasing centering for the issue, with Mathewson?s portrait framed nicely within the borders. The bold background and classic portrait retain strong eye appeal despite the card?s age. A particularly clean 3 for this issue, there is just some very minute creasing by the lower left corner. The image looks terrific, the borders are quite white, the back is nice as well. The corner wear is mild and consistent, it would be almost impossible to find a more attractive example of this card in a 3 holder. Never an easy card to find, Mathewson is of course among the most important stars of the dead-ball era, This 115+ year-old caramel card is a compelling opportunity for collectors seeking an early card of one of baseball?s true icons.
